A little bit of history
For over 20 years I worked in the community sector as a social worker/counsellor. For several years I worked in the area of homelessness in Australia and Scotland before returning home to work for an NGO’s supporting young people also at risk of homelessness. I then moved to a counselling role for Relationships Australia focusing predominately on supporting couples and families and I also worked part time for several years counselling at a Womens Heath Centre.
In 2009 my partner joined the Australian Airforce which created the opportunity for me to rethink my career. I was feeling depleted in my current roles and could not imagine looking for a new job at each new posting, (approximately every three years) so this seemed the perfect time for a change in direction. I decided to take 6 months off work to renovate a newly bought house and complete my masters in Social Work.
During this time I started to explore my passions, and what I wanted to spend the second half of my life doing, (apart from recovering from all the shenanigans I got up to in the first half!) I came up with a list that looked a bit like this – do more yoga and meditation, work with women, travel and make enough money to be able to give back. So when I packaged this up, yup you guessed it, it looks a lot like a retreat! So I started my retreat business in March 2011. I launched Vibrant Women on my birthday, figuring the best gift I could give myself is was new life! Since then I haven’t really looked back, I’ve been blessed with bookings and lots of repeat guests and I’m so grateful to everyone who has supported me.
In 2015 women started asking me to expand my business to include sight seeing tours to inspiring places and where possible to include some of the cultural and spiritual practices of the people we were visiting and maybe also some components of a retreat if time and location permitted, ie a bit of yoga or meditation, an afternoon off to visit the hammam and have massage, a short workshop on Buddhism etc.
Then in 2018 after two years of running retreat facilitator training, because women kept contacting me saying “I want to do what you are doing, how can I do this?” I started Vibrant Facilitator Training. Here I offer course to support women to shape their knowledge and wisdom into a teachable format to share with others.
So nine years on and I’m loving my life more that ever. My retreats and inspirational journeys have taken me to places I never could have imagined, Morocco, India, Egypt, Fiji, Thailand …… but more importantly they have provided me with unforgettable experiences, fun, friendship, personal growth and just being totally awestruck at the beauty and craziness of the world, the world really is an amazing place and I don’t think I’ll ever run out of places to explore, physically and personally, I see my life truly as an adventure. Coupled now with the fact I get to support other women to do the same thing. I receive daily love and inspiration from all of these wonderful women. My life is truly blessed.
Then, she began to breathe, and live, and every moment took her to a place where goodbyes were hard to come by. She was in love, but not in love with someone or something; she was in love with her life. And for the first time, in a long time, everything was inspiring.– R.M. Drake
